Essential Fatty acids:
Omega-3 fatty acids contribute to the health of the heart muscle and overall heart function, making it easier for the heart to pump blood efficiently. The Omega 3 index is the main marker for Cardiovascular risk.
Fatty acids, especially omega-3s, are vital for heart health by helping to manage cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, decrease inflammation, prevent blood clots, and support a healthy heart rhythm.
Multiple lines of evidence link reduced tissue and/or blood levels of Omega-3 fatty acids with increased risk for coronary heart disease and sudden cardiac death.
This Fatty acids test provides the full fatty acids profile. Includes the full panel of the 21 red cell fatty acids plus ratios. For full reference ranges then an imedical dashboard account should be set up when ordering.
LPa:
The Lipoprotein-a or Lp(a) test is used to measure the level of a particular type of lipoprotein which can increase a person's risk for cardiovascular disease. A person's Lp(a) level is typically genetically determined so it is unaffected by lifestyle change sand most medications. A person with elevated Lp(a) levels is usually advised to take extra care in managing other more controllable risk factors for heart disease.
APO A1/B:
Apolipoproteins are proteins that bind to lipids (fats) to form lipoproteins, which transport lipids through the bloodstream. Among the various apolipoproteins, Apo A (Apolipoprotein A) and Apo B (Apolipoprotein B) are the most significant in relation to heart health.
Apo A1 has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that help protect blood vessels from damage, reducing the risk of heart disease.
Apo B-containing lipoproteins, particularly LDL, are responsible for depositing cholesterol in the artery walls, leading to plaque formation and atherosclerosis. This process can narrow or block arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Monitoring the balance between Apo A1 and Apo B can provide valuable insight into your cardiovascular health.
CRP:
CRP is a marker of inflammation and infection. While it is a relatively blunt tool for 'inflammation' it can show something may be up. The high sensitive CRP gives a 'risk factor' number for possibly developing cardiovascular disease. The hsCRP risk factor report should be analysed in the assumption of normal health. If experiencing short term inflammation for known reasons the results should be viewed with this in mind.
