Intanza (influenza vaccine)

What is the Intanza vaccine used for?

The Intanza influenza vaccine is given for the prevention of influenza or the 'flu' in adults (aged 18-59 years). Vaxigrip is indicated for use outside these ages.

Flu vaccinations are recommended as the best way to reduce the chance of becoming sick with the seasonal flu and lessen the chance of spreading it to others. As more people get vaccinated against the flu, the less chance the flu can spread through the community.

How is Intanza given?

Intanza flu vaccine is a single injection using a microneedle which only penetrates the top layer of skin with only 0.1 ml of vaccine  so it is designed to be less uncomfortable than standard vaccines.

The vaccine should be given each year before the start of the flu season, the best time to have it is from March to May.

Intanza flu vaccine protects against flu caused by the strains of the influenza virus that are closely related to those found in the vaccine. It will not prevent flu-like illnesses caused by other germs such as colds.
