b-HCG measures the exact amount of Hcg (human chorionic gonadotropin)  in your blood. Because this test can detect even trace amounts of hCG, it is a very accurate test. A quantitative blood test can also help your doctor to determine if your pregnancy is progressing normally.

hCG can be detected in urine or blood after implantation, which occurs six to twelve days after fertilization. Quantitative blood (serum beta) tests can detect hCG levels as low as 1 mIU/mL. It takes several days for hCG to be detectable in blood or urine post implantation. hCG production increases very rapidly with serum concentrations doubling every 1-1.5 days in the first 8-10 weeks of pregnancy.
